![]() Over at plot and script, Cates continues on what seems to be a takeover of the Marvel Universe. Antonio Fabela on colors follows that lead, but shines the most on the bigger, larger-than-life moments: energy signatures, blasts and how the outer cosmos are portrayed are simply beautiful. These are two men (gods?) usually portrayed on the height of their pride, arrogance and hubris, and to see them discuss themes like mortality and worthiness with such a careful approach to how they look is certainly a big plus. It is a level of craft not usually linked with this animated style, where the main characters and the obvious action are rendered in minutiae, but where most of the rest takes a backseat.Īnother aspect well-worth analyzing are facial expressions on the more quieter moments of “Cosmic Ghost Rider” #1, in particular towards the middle of the book when Frank and All-Father Odin engage in a fierce, yet non-combatant, conversation. Backgrounds are just as impressive: there are moments set in Valhalla where readers can observe hills and mountains fading into the distance, while rainbow bridges take control of the foreground. Panel designs are dynamic – opening up when the action demands it, and zooming in for more personal exchanges – and artistic liberties are taken just in the right measure in terms of distortion and impossible proportions. He brings an animated sensibility to every page, while not losing sight of the extreme violence and action needed for a book like this. The choice to have Dylan Burnett on art was enlightened. And while this mini-series is only getting started, it seems that the trust placed on the creative team was well deserved. It is understandable, therefore, that Marvel would further wish to expand that part of its universe, even if running the risk of spreading a nugget of a good concept over too much exposition. the Punisher, had been transformed into the Spirit of Vengeance through a series of trials and tribulations was certainly a high note. Join hot new comic (and cosmic?) writer Donny Cates (THANOS, DOCTOR STRANGE) as he pushes his wildest creation past the breaking point!Ī big part of what made Donny Cates’s run on “Thanos” so memorable were the high-concept introductions he made to the book and to the broader Marvel Universe. Ballantyne, who weren’t involved in the study. The pain treated might have been more chronic, recurring pain than the type caused by acute injury, according to a commentary on the study by Dr. One possibility is that the back or neck pain of the opioid group could have had more underlying factors than the authors considered - factors that have been known to respond poorly to opioid treatment, experts said. The study authors and experts who weren’t involved in the new study have theories on why opioids weren’t found to be more helpful than the placebo. “We also know that being prescribed opioid pain relievers even for a short period of time increases the risk of opioid misuse long term,” Lin said in a news release. ![]() The opioid group had worse mental health scores and more reports of nausea, dizziness and constipation than the placebo group. The authors also discovered that not only are opioids unlikely to alleviate back and neck pain, they also might cause harm even after short-term, sensible use. ![]() More people in the opioid group had ongoing pain at weeks 26 and 52 than in the placebo group. Six weeks into treatment, the average pain score was 2.78 in the opioid group and 2.25 in the placebo group, a difference that increased over time. The authors found that in terms of effects on back and neck pain, opioids weren’t any more helpful than the placebo. The care involved the doctor reassuring them and advising them to stay active, avoid bed rest and, if required, avoid other treatments including nonopioids. The other group was instructed to take a placebo pill.īoth groups were also given care tips from a doctor they were told to see weekly. Naloxone was used to prevent constipation, a common side effect of opioids, and therefore keep participants from figuring out which group they were in. The study participants were then randomly split into two groups: One group took a combination of naloxone and up to 20 milligrams of the opioid oxycodone per day for six weeks. At the beginning of the study, participants were about age 44 on average and had experienced at least moderately painful neck or lower back pain or both for 12 weeks or less. The patients had sought help for neck or lower back pain from primary care clinics or hospitals in Sydney between February 2016 and March 2022. How can people stay healthy in hot weather? When it comes to treating this pain, physicians should cautiously limit patient use of opioids and restrict it to a short time period, the society’s clinical guidelines state. So, while the Mikro is first and foremost a more portable version of the Maschine for making music on the move, the more streamlined experience may well be more attractive to certain studio users. On the Mikro MK3 there’s none of that, so by necessity you tend to be more focused on what’s often the most difficult part of the process – sketching out a beat. So what does the new Mikro offer besides portability? The answer, is a more focused experience.įor some users (me included) the full-size Maschine MK3’s color screens can be just as distracting as a laptop it’s all too easy to get lost in them tweaking drum synths and effects, slicing up samples or editing notes. One of my favorite aspects of the full-size MK3 is being able to slice samples and effects from the hardware itself – tasks that are impossible on the Mikro hardware. On the other hand, some users may find themselves squinting to see it properly and it can only be used for a few simple tasks. The Mikro MK3 is much less cluttered and the extra space gained has allowed NI to fit in a touch strip for tweaking effects and performing. In fact, it’s so small that it can only display two lines of text.Īs a design choice, it makes sense. The Mikro MK3 doesn’t inherit its older sibling’s color screen though. The new Mikro, which is a smaller version of last year’s Maschine MK3, takes a similar approach: it’s only got one knob but keeps the useful buttons for toggling between pad, keyboard and chord modes, as well as variation and duplication. The first Maschine Mikro, released in 2011, reduced the controller to a more portable size by making a few compromises – the dual screens became a single LCD and all the knobs were jettisoned in favor of just one. The core idea – an MPC-style controller hooked up to a software host – hasn’t changed (except on 2016’s sequencer tool, Maschine Jam), but with each successive generation NI has added new features (a touch strip for effects, audio interface, color screens) to make it a more useful studio and performance tool. The new Maschine Mikro, however, is more notable for what it cuts back on – namely screen size. Native Instruments’ beat-making hardware Maschine has undergone a lot of facelifts over the years. Scott Wilson finds out if the new format makes the portable controller more challenging to use. Native Instruments’ latest Maschine controller is a refreshed version of its cut-down Mikro model with almost no visible screen. ![]() ![]() Here, we looked at transaction fees and what benefits they claimed in terms of increased transaction amounts, repeat customers, and completed sales.
